Toni Giger retires from the Austrian Ski Federation

Toni Giger is one of the few individuals who has had such a decisive influence on recent events in the history of the Austrian Ski Federation.

After 33 years of service, the man who is now the sports director at the Austrian Ski Association has decided to leave that organization so he may focus on other endeavors. The annals of history will forever bear witness to a plethora of accomplishments, both technological and otherwise.

As an illustration, while serving in the role of Alpine Racing Director, a total of six overall World Cup titles, twenty-six discipline World Cup wins, and twelve Nations Cup victories were achieved. Because of this, Toni Giger became the OSV’s most successful men’s head coach in the league’s whole history.

A debt of gratitude and appreciation is due for the productive job.

“One of the most successful instructors and leaders of the past several decades, Toni Giger, has decided to resign from his position with the Austrian Ski Federation. In his roles as racing director, head of the department for development, research, and innovation, and sports director, he was instrumental in the tremendous success that the organization has enjoyed over the course of the past few decades.

We would like to take this opportunity to offer our sincerest gratitude and respect to him on behalf of the entire Austrian ski community for this “explains Roswitha Stadlober, president of the OSV, who also extends her best wishes to the outgoing sports director for his future professional endeavors. “On the one hand, we are losing a special connoisseur and insider of the world of ski racing, but on the other hand, we can continue to depend on many of his ideas and inventions – through the Ski Austria Service & Technology competence centre that he built,” he explained.

Patrick Ortlieb, who is the OSV Finance Officer, agrees with this viewpoint as well. “Anyone who has read about Toni Giger’s past accomplishments will be aware of the unique mark that he and his crew have made in the annals of Austrian skiing history.

However, it is not only the triumphs that mark his age; it is also the innumerable sports heroes, from Hermann Maier to Marcel Hirscher, who have made it to the very top of the world thanks to his support. Those victories are what make his era stand out. By paying great attention to detail and putting in a lot of hard effort, Toni has established ideal circumstances for our players and has also continually improved the system.”

Toni Giger reflects on his singular time spent in the OSV with a great deal of happiness and a profound sense of gratitude: “The opportunity to spend 33 years working in a professional sports environment such as the OSV while doing what he considers to be his dream job: how many people get to experience such good fortune in their careers?

As a result, I am thankful for everything that has been accomplished for skiing in Austria over the course of such a lengthy period of time, owing to the dedication of a large number of people. The achievements in athletics, the advancements in technology, and the steps forward in improving safety make this time period so meaningful to me personally. The human element, the spirit of teamwork, and the excitement that drove all of the large and little accomplishments are still present.

As a result, I would want to extend my most heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has shared this journey with me. My colleagues coaches, partners, and supporters of the OSV, and of course, the generations of athletes with whom I have had the opportunity of working over the course of these 33 years. The staff of the OSV, the former and present leaders of the federation for their admiration and trust in my work. It was, it is, and it will continue to be an honor for me! The OSV is currently going through a period of upheaval, during which a great deal of change is taking place.

Over the course of the past few weeks, I’ve come to the conclusion that I, too, would like to make another move in my professional life and accept a new challenge as soon as it’s feasible to do so. It was not a simple choice for me to make, but ultimately, I knew that it was the best one. I want to wish success to everyone on the OSV team, including my successors. And I will be just as ecstatic about each one of their victories in the future as I have been about my own accomplishments over the course of my 33 years with the OSV.”
