Mario Gotze Rejoins Germany After 5 Years

After a break of five years, Mario Goetze has been included in Germany’s World Cup squad. He plays in the middle of the field.

Goetze, who is now 30 years old and plays for Eintracht Frankfurt and scored the game-winning goal in the World Cup final in 2014, has not competed for Germany since a friendly match against France in November of 2017.

Manuel Neuer and Thomas Muller, both of whom play for Bayern Munich, will each be participating in their fourth World Cup.

Youssoufa Moukoko, a striker for Borussia Dortmund who is only 17 years old, is featured as well.

Moukoko and Niclas Fullkrug, who plays for Werder Bremen and has scored 10 goals in 13 games in the Bundesliga so far this year, have both received their first call-ups to the national team.

Mats Hummel, a defender who participated in the last two World Cups, was not selected by manager Hansi Flick, while Marco Reus, the captain of Dortmund, will not be participating in the tournament due to an ankle injury.

Timo Werner, once of Chelsea and currently playing for RB Leipzig, is also out after suffering an ankle injury earlier this month that will prevent him from returning to action until 2023.

Ilkay Gundogan, who plays for Manchester City, and Kai Havertz, who plays for Chelsea, are two of the players who have been selected for the team. West Ham defender Thilo Kehrer and Southampton center back Armel Bella-Kotchap have also been selected.

On November 23, Germany will begin their World Cup campaign against Japan. Following that, they will compete against Spain and Costa Rica in Group E.

On November 16th, they will participate in a game against Oman that will serve as a warmup.
