The FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Ranking of Asian Volleyball Confederation affiliated national federations’ teams was updated on October 14 by the FIVB.
This update saw the 2016 Rio Games and 2018 Asian Games gold medallists China claim No.5 in the World Ranking but finish on top of the Asian standings with 338 points. They were followed by world No.6 Japan, the defending and consecutive two-time Asian winners (316 points), world No.15 Thailand (207 points), world No.23 (86).
Meanwhile, the remaining Asian teams all ended outside of the top 50 in the FIVB World Ranking. Chinese Taipei finished sixth in Asia and 56th in the World Ranking with the same 65 points that Australia finished seventh in Asia and 57th in the World Ranking with.
Other teams were India, which was ranked 65th in the world with 47 points, Hong Kong, China, which was ranked 69th with 43 points, Iran, which was ranked 73rd with 39 points, Indonesia, which was ranked 75th with 37 points, and Sri Lanka, which was ranked 80th with 37 points (29 points).
The FIVB World Ranking system dictates that on January 1 of each year, the national teams that did not participate in any matches that counted towards the new World Ranking during the previous year are penalized with a score of -50 WR points for the next season. If an inactive team’s WR score drops below 20 points, that team’s name will be deleted from the ranking list.
After a team that was taken from the ranking due to inactivity because it did not play any matches that counted towards the new World Ranking, that team will be reinstated and given the same World Ranking score that it had before it was removed.
